Votorantim Metais concentrates production in three sectors: zinc, nickel and long steel.
Its production units in Brazil are located in the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Goiás. Outside, VM has a refinery in Peru and is the majority shareholder of Colombia’s second largest steel.
Steels
The Steel Business Unit of Votorantim Metais began operations in 1937 with all production concentrated in the city of Barra Mansa, Rio de Janeiro. The plant, which has an annual production capacity of 600 thousand tons of long steel, has continued since 1995, a sustainable development model, which uses recycled steel (scrap melting) as the main raw material.
In early 2007, the business unit expanded VM steel capacity expansion by acquiring 52% of the shares of the steelworks Paz Del Rio, the second largest integrated steel plant in Colombia. Production of long and flat steel, the company has a production capacity of 315 thousand tons / year.
Even in 2007 are scheduled investments of R $ 461 million in modernizing the plant of Barra Mansa, which must have its capacity increased by 9.2%.

Nickel
Votorantim Metais is currently the largest Brazilian manufacturer of nickel and sole producer of electrolytic nickel only Latin America.
It started its activities in 1981 and currently produces about 27 thousand tons of electrolytic nickel and matte nickel per year, with 47% of production destined for export.
Business Unit has its mining area installed in Niquelândia (GO), which performs the extraction of literati nickel ore and nickel carbonate production. These products supply the metal factory, located in the neighborhood Sao Miguel Paulette, Sao Paulo (SP). In this unit are manufactured electrolytic nickel and cobalt.
In Formalize de Minas, Votorantim Metals produces nickel matte, for the foreign market. The annual production capacity is 10 thousand tons of nickel content.
Zinc
Votorantim Metals is the largest zinc producer in Latin America and ranks among the ten largest producers worldwide. In 2006, production capacity reached the mark of 402.5 thousand tons.
The Zinc Business Unit began his career in 1956 with the creation of the Company Mineira de Metais (CMM), in Tress Marisa, Minas Geris. In 2002, it expanded its activities with the acquisition of the Company Parabola de Metals, installed in Ruiz de Fora, Minas territory.
In 2004, Votorantim Metals wins its first unit outside the country. The acquisition of Cajamarquilla zinc refinery in Peru, reflects a new Group’s growth strategy, which aims to expand its activities in Latin American countries. The following year, a new conquest. VM acquires 24.9% of the shares of Companies Mineral Milo, fourth largest zinc mining in Peru.
Currently, VM maintains two mines in the cities of Vacant and Parasite (Moro Aged) and two industrial units, one in Tress Marisa and another in Ruiz de Foray, Minas Geris all.
